Cheltenham
Gloucestershire

Cheltenham takes its name from the river Chelt, and is celebrated for its medicinal waters. It has been for the last sixty years one of the most elegant and fashionable watering places in England.
The staple manufacture here is stockings. At this place the nuns of the Abbey House, the only relics of a large monastic establishment, may be seen. The situation of the town is very beautiful and the surrounding scenery is picturesque, particularly Aylesborough, about a mile from the town.
