Bradshaw’s Guide

Belfast to Holywood and Bangor

This part of the County Down system, after crossing the Largan, runs along the edge of the Lough, through Sydenham, Glenmachan, and Tillysburn, to

Holywood

Holywood, or Hollywood, is a pretty bathing place on the Lough, 5 miles from Belfast, where the Irish Presbyterians signed the Solemn League and Covenant, 1644.

From hence the stations of Cultra, Craigavad, and Clandeboyd successively present themselves, and we arrive at the town of

Bangor

Five miles north of Newtownards, a pretty bathing place, in the mouth of Lough Belfast, is the castle of Lord Bangor.
